Teaching Philosophy

Mark Twain is said to have called golf, “A good walk spoiled”. However he believes that golf greatly adds to the walk. Golf is a metaphor for life. It is the best game ever designed. Each student brings with them a set of skills and experiences that can be referenced to improve the way they think and swing their club. Therefore, each student is different and treated as unique. There is no one size fits all golf swing. There are however, several elements that all good ball strikers have. Each player has different goals, desires, and expectations. His task is to help them analyze, define, design, implement, and evaluate their outcome. This is accomplished by understanding that the flight of the ball must be recognized and understood. In this way a player is able to take their golf motion from the practice area to the golf course. Research has indicated that 60% of our strokes are played from inside 100 yards. Also, that 40% of these are on or around the putting green. Therefore we should focus on these areas, since improving these skills translate directly to the full swing and lower scores. On the course we want to play the game of golf not play golf swing. Being organized and having a solid pre-shot routine allows a player to be confident and consistent.

Testimonials

The 1:1 instruction was excellent and Craig Smith could not have been more patient, kind and helpful. He was an absolute pleasure. His communication from the get go was outstanding and made us feel welcome and ready for our golf school. His instruction was far better than instruction I have received in the past, and I’m looking forward to my next school with Craig!
